During the Mughal period, at the northern end of the Babu Para and Pail Para villages on the north side of Gomtir area, the Lalmar market was destroyed by the river bank of the river Dhanagoda, on the north side of the village of Kaladi, a market called "Bairagir Hat" was found on the bank of the above river. For some time after the competition in both the markets, Jamadar Hat popularly known as Matlab. And the name of the bairagir hat is abolished. In this way, the name of Matlab was named after the name of Jamladar. On 9th August, 1918, there is a Gazette. Gazette number 238 Historians say that about 120 years ago the name was given to the Matlab upazila. As the main area of the Hindu community, there were many bauls, monastic and tantris. In 1900, Gourvand split Chandpur Circle and created Matlab Circle. As a result, they started the proceedings of the Thana with 22 unions. A long demand for the people of independence Uttar Matlab area should be created as a separate police station.
On April 30, 2000, the journey started in the upazila of the upazila on the outskirts of Meghna-Dhanagoda river, as a separate upazila with 1 municipality and 13 unions. Later on September 5 of the same year, Matlab started the activities as the newly created Upazila. As a result of the north side of Matlab upazila, this upazila is named as Matlab North. Matlab North has historic monuments, education, culture and religious fame. Meghna Dhanagoda Irrigation Project was created during the year 1987-1988 for the purpose of saving irrigation in agricultural production, protecting the people from the loss of floods, to prevent water logging and to eradicate river erosion. Which is the second largest irrigation project in Bangladesh. Its round is 64 km. 17584 hectares of land has been acquired for irrigation projects. Matlab North upazila is formed by the river Meghna on the north and northwest and by the river Dhanagoda on the east. Earlier on the north of Daudkandi (Comilla), Shariatpur and Munshiganj districts on the west of Matlab (Chandpur) in the south of Gazaria (Munshiganj).
